Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me
Or can they?...
When we were kids we were taught this saying to help us get over the mean things other people could say
We kept this phrase and held onto it for dear life. Thinking that this was the gospel truth. Just to help us get through the day
We were told that we could let bullies talk and that their words wouldn't hurt the same as a physical touch
That somehow, their words would never hurt us that much
But just imagine for a second that we could see the scars that our words leave
Imagine that the wounds and scars were etched on people's skin for everyone to see
If you could actually see what damage your words could actually do, would you be careful with how you use them?
Will that make you understand how much more carefully you really need to choose them? How we shouldn't abuse them? How we shouldn't misuse them?
Words are a dangerous weapon that you can openly carry; you don't have to conceal
Yet this weapon is fired far too often to cut down pride, a career, hope and sometimes lives with no regard for how someone can feel
Yes. Words can be used to hurt, but they can also be used to heal
The same weapon that is used to hurt is sometimes the medicine that can be used to take away the sting
The very same thing that can break people down can be used to build them back up. A man can go from feeling like garbage to feeling like a king
Unfortunately people don't understand how powerful their words can really be. Words from you could be the reason why someone is still alive
Your words can be the reason why the insecurities begin to melt away, why the confidence begins to build, why the tears have finally been dried
They can move mountains, change lives, create magic out of nothing, build empires from dreams
So why hold back words of encouragement? Your words can chase away clouds and be the reason that the sun beams
Your words are important, they make a difference, even during times that look just dark and grim
There are approximately half a million words in the English language. How will you use them?
